History

What was once a sleepy town on the outskirts of Washington D.C. is today one of the bright symbols of American capitalism and success. I am referring to Dale City. Thanks to the vision of real estate developer Cecil Don Hylton, Dale City has become one of the prosperous communities in Virginia. Located in the Washington, Arlington area it is a self contained community of approximately 66000 people. It all started in 1970, when Cecil Hylton started his construction activities in Dale City. The city has been called Dale because it is surrounded by hills and dales all around. Many people have a misconception that the middle name of Cecil Hylton was Dale and as a result this city came to be known as Dale City. The developments were started approximately 1 mile on the Intestate 95. The constructions which began then are still continuing with active re-construction work happening. The total area of the community was 15 square miles.

Since the developments started Dale has become one of the best self contained communities in Virginia and maybe the whole country. Today it has everything from schools to hospitals and shopping malls to golf courses. The Dale City community has a very interesting mix of citizens with 12% of German origin, 10% of Irish origin, Asian Indian 1% and other people of African American and Hispanic mix.

The vision of Cecil Hylton lives today in the form of magnificent malls, golf courses, parks and everything that modern society asks for. So, if you want to be a part of 1970’s America combined with all modern amenities heading towards Dale City would not be a bad idea.
